2025 promises to be a groundbreaking year for gamers around the world. 2024 was solid, with adored games like Helldivers 2 and Call of Duty Black OPS 6 dropping, and this year will be no different. From amazing and long-awaited games finally being released, to a new handheld console by Nintendo, 2025 will be an excellent year for gaming fans.
One of the most anticipated video games of all time comes out this fall— none other than Grand Theft Auto VI. GTA 6’s release has been long awaited and is estimated to have a production budget of two billion dollars, making it the highest spend of any game of all time.
Think about it— two billion dollars is more than your standard blockbuster movie.
GTA 6 is set to bring mind-blowing realistic graphics, new and luxurious cars, and a riveting and interesting story mode, involving two new protagonists, Lucia and Jason, and will be set in “Vice City,” aplay off of Miami.
Grand Theft Auto 6 is expected to have a big impact on the gaming development industry and gameplay in general due the latest programming tech. The new tech utilizes a new physics engine, which will make things in the game move more realistically, according to freshman gamer Wills Goldner.
Another addition to the gaming world in 2025 is the Nintendo Switch 2. This next gen console will bring new additions to popular and loved franchises, such as Mario Kart 9. Many people have high hopes for this and see it as a fresh new take for the franchise.
“I’m excited for what Mario Kart 9 will bring to the franchise, and how other characters will be remade,” freshman Ian Yesfu said. “I’m also excited for what new features the switch 2 will bring.”
In Nintendo’s latest annual Pokémon direct (promo vid), the Pokémon Z-A game was revealed to be a Switch 2 exclusive. Pokémon Z-A will feature Chikorita, Tepig, and Totodile as Starter Pokémon. A new game, Pokémon Champions, was also revealed, and will come out later this year. By the looks of it, this will be a fun, interesting new take on the beloved franchise.
2025 will definitely be an awesome year for gamers. Whether you’ve been playing for a while or just picked up gaming, ‘25 will not disappoint.
