Seen a new face on campus? Recently, Saint Stephen’s welcomed a new Learning Specialist: Mrs. Sarah Sandberg. Sandberg’s job is to provide a support system for students in their classes, and to assist in developing learning accommodations for middle and high school students with. Her office is located in the Turner Building, right next to Mr. Johnson’s room.
Coming from New York, our new learning specialist has quite a lot of experience and even more passion for working with students with educational accommodations.
In order to get to know her better, we sat down with Sandberg and asked her 10 rapid-fire questions in 10 minutes.
Q: Tell us about yourself: Where are you from? What brought you to Saint Stephen’s?
A: I’m originally from New York, my husband is from Bradenton. So when he got married, we moved to Bradenton.
Q: Can you tell us about your career in education? Have you always wanted to work in education?
A: Yeah! My Bachelor’s is in psychology, then I did a fellowship program for my master’s degree in special education. So I know once I shifted from psychology to education that I wanted to work in this area.
Q: How would you say your position Saint Stephen’s so far has compared to your previous positions?
A: It’s pretty different, because at my last job I was in an office, and now I’m working directly with kids.
Q: What are your passions?
A: I like to read books that are being turned into movies and watching the movie after. And I have two kids, so just running around at the playground and playing games.
Q: What’s your go-to lazy dinner?
A: Chicken parm casserole.
Q: What’s your favorite style of clothing?
A: When I’m not at work, athleisure.
Q: What’s your favorite weird snack?
A: I haven’t had this in many, many years, but a weird snack I used to eat was peanut butter and pepperoni on cinnamon toast.
Q: If you had to listen to one musician for the rest of your life, which would you choose?
A: Ed Sheeran.
Q: Have you ever played an instrument? If not, what’s one you’d like to play?
A: I have not played an instrument, but I wish that I had learned piano.
Q: If you could have any superpower for a day, what would you choose?
A: Teleportation.
