During advisory time on Wednesday, the sophomores had the opportunity to listen to guest speaker, Steve Shenbaum. Mr. Shenbaum previously worked as an actor in Hollywood, working on movies such as American Pie 2 and Space Jam but now spends his time as a public speaker and founder of Game On Nation, an organization operating with the goal of improving leadership and communication, especially among youth.
Mr. Shenbaum’s background in acting was immediately apparent. His presence gave energy to the room, and it was clear that he had a passion for speaking to audiences.
When asked why he wanted to get into public speaking, Shenbaum said, “People have three fears, their three biggest fears are death, taxes, and public speaking.”
He explained how he couldn’t fix death, and that he was bad at taxes. “But I can help with the public speaking, and I didn’t think that public speaking should’ve been in the top three.”
Because of this, he started helping people with presentations and speeches in order to get over their fears.
During the talk, Mr. Shenbaum went over many talking points, including appreciativeness and self-acceptance, however, when asked about the one thing he wanted students to take away from his visit, he wanted students to know that “this is the time for them to begin to take care of themselves, sleep well, eat well, and be well.”
