This Friday at 8:15pm in the Hoagland Arena, the whole SSES community will gather for an inspirational kickoff to the 2024-25 school year.

For as long as most Falcons can remember, the event was called the ‘All School Opening Chapel’, but this year, it will have a new look and a new name– the ‘All School Opening Gathering’.

Interim Upper School Director Anna Conn explained the thinking for the change.

“We take chapels very seriously,” Conn Said. “It is a solemn place to catch your breath, relax, and take in the beautiful place of Christ Church.”

But this year, admin is embracing a different feel.

“This [the Gathering]– It’s more of an exciting, get the school year going event.”

According to administration, despite the name change, Falcons will still get to enjoy the same year-opening traditions, including spirit chants lead by the cheerleaders, a performance by the school band, and the ringing of the bell.

Due to the event, Friday will also have a Late Start Schedule for the upper school. (See the schedule below for bell times.)

Although the name will be different, the purpose– bringing the school together to start the academic year with strength, kindness, and determination, will remain the same.

“I hope that this event helps students start thinking of us as a whole school,” Conn said.
