On Saturday Feb. 8, the tradition of a Winter Formal will returning after a four year hiatus.
The event’s theme is Winter Wonderland, and it will run from 6-8pm at the Oscura Café on Manatee Avenue.
The event is organized by the Student Council, and Student Council President Victoria Neiva said that for her, the venue will be the main attraction.
Neiva describe Oscura Cafe as “cozy,” adding that it’s more “like a music café,” which will provide a different vibe from an auditorium or gym. She also said it’s located in a convenient area for a majority of Saint Stephen’s students.
Planning for the event has included a great deal of collaboration between faculty and StuCo to get things right this year.
Upper School English teacher Mr. David Johnson said he’ll be there as “clean up crew” and to volunteer, but that StuCo did a majority of the planning.
“Over the last several years, Winter Formal hasn’t been an important event. This year, we wanted to make it really great,” Johnson said. In past years, many have opted out of attending the winter events, but this year, StuCo hopes a return to the “formal” aspect will bring more interest.
Tickets are $30 at the front office. Students may bring outside guests, but they need to be cleared beforehand by an admin. There will also be a cash bar serving (non-alcoholic) drinks like lemonade and Coke products and light bites.
