Have you ever wanted to be someone else? The entire Upper School — students and teachers — lived out this dream during Homecoming Week, with the theme of “Lands.” Throughout the week, the students participated in fun spirit events and strived to win Homecoming week for their grade. Monday, September 30 — Theme: Monsters Spirit event: Bake-off The whole high school rushed to the lunch loggia to get a piece of at least one of the four huge cakes — one baked by the freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors — which were judged by several teachers. Results: Tuesday, October 1 — Theme: Super heroes Spirit event: Noodleation Two representatives, a boy and a girl from each grade, competed against representatives from the other classes in a gladiator-style fight. Each contestant taped four balloons to his or her side, as student-warriors attempted to knock each one off with pool noodles. The last one standing won. Results: Wednesday, October 2 — Theme: Cartoons Spirit event: Dance-off Each grade choreographed a dance inspired by the world of animation. Results: Thursday, October 3 — Theme: Science-Fiction Spirit event: Musical chairs The students and teachers gathered to watch the second to last spirit event of the week. The music began to play and the participants of the game, a boy and a girl from each grade, walked around the circle of chairs and sprinted to get a seat when the music stopped. Results: Friday, October 4 — Theme: Magic Spirit event: Float/Banner Students in grades pre K-12 gathered in the gym to cheer for their favorite floats. The freshman class’ theme was the Wizard of Oz, and the sophomores performed magic tricks. The juniors made the magic school bus. The seniors featured Disney characters — Aladdin and Peter Pan — along with a big magic hat. As well as the production of the float, a banner was painted. Results-Float: Results-Banner: For the overall Homecoming week results, the grade that scored the most points was the senior class. Third place was taken by the juniors, followed by the sophomores and, in last place, the freshmen. |
