At Saint Stephen’s, it’s clear to see that our school has an abundance of students with a significant talent for art, and in particular photography. Out of the many amazing photographers, teacher Mrs. Grady says that senior Jarrett Millican stands out from the rest.

Millican has been with the photography program at Saint Stephen’s since his sophomore year. He was born in Fort Myers, Florida, and came to Saint Stephen’s freshman year of high school. As a freshman at Saint Stephen’s, Millican chose to take Art 1 with Mrs. Johnson. Later, he decided art wasn’t for him, taking photography instead the following year. He is now taking Mrs. Grady’s AP photography course and continues to grow as a photographer.

When The Gauntlet asked Jarrett what inspired him to take photography he said, “I’ve really had an interest in photography for a while now and I really have an appreciation for great pictures.”

He mostly enjoys photographing nature including birds, sunsets, and trees. He believes the simple subjects in his photos make them stand out from the rest. Over the years he has developed a good sense of when a perfect moment can be captured on camera.

“When I take a photo I know it’s worth capturing because the light and colors will be set up perfectly,” says Millican

Yet, as much as photography inspires Millican and gives him a platform to show his creativity, he says, “I wouldn’t be interested in making a career out of it as it will stay a side hobby.”
