Swim team to make waves at Swim Across America

As they did last year, Falcon swimmers will look to continue contributing to the advancement of cancer research by joining in on the 2018 Atlanta open water swimming event.

For the second year in a row, members of the Saint Stephen’s swim team will be traveling to Atlanta, Georgia, to take part in the Swim Across America open water event at Lake Lanier next Saturday.

Swim Across America is a non-profit organization dedicated to raising money for cancer research by sponsoring open water swims, such as the one in Atlanta, throughout the country. This year, the Falcons will be participating in the half-mile and one mile portions of the event.

The Falcons will also continue to swim in honor of those in the Saint Stephen’s community who have been afflicted by cancer, including Head of School Dr. Pullen, who battled breast cancer during the 2017-18 school year, Director of Admissions Mr. Larry Jensen, who was recently diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, and Mrs. Karen Shultes, wife of athletic trainer Brian Shultes, who is in recovery after having fought stage four melanoma for over a decade.

Swim coach Sheri Hart, a supporter of SAA since its establishment, hopes to raise a total of $30,000 in the two events of this school year (as the team is planning to attend another open water swim in Tampa next spring). The goal for the trip to Atlanta is to raise $20,000.

If you would like to join the fight against cancer and help them reach a fundraising milestone, go to the team page and click a name under the roster to donate to any of the team members!
