It’s that time of the year again. The weather is getting colder and the holiday season is right around the corner. The scariest holiday of the year is next week, which leaves people eager for Halloween with the question: What should my costume be this year?
Instead of wasting hours wandering through a your local Halloween store, just listen to these 5 simple tips to make everyone envy your costume. Of course, hitting all five categories would give you the perfect costume. However, if you only get one or two, you could still pull off a memorable costume.
Five tips to the perfect costume:
- Relatable: Let’s start off with something simple. Your costume should go with the trends of the time. I would recommend that you pick a TV show or movie that has recently released and design your costume around a character. Make sure that people can tell who you are just by looking at you. If worse comes to worst, then just wear a nametag.
- Know your Audience: Before dressing up in a ridiculous costume, think about who will be seeing it. If you’re with your friends, it would be acceptable to have a more modern costume. For example, no one will be interested in seeing your Lil Pump (popular rapper) costume if you’re Trick or Treating with your younger cousins and grandmother.
- Don’t be offensive: In today’s society, it’s harder than ever to wear an edgy costume that doesn’t offend a single person. Whether they’re mad because of gender or color, it still can cause a rather awkward situation for the rest of the night. So how about just avoiding the problem entirely and just picking a different costume that can still get the job done.
- A touch of humor: Now this could be considered the most important category. Unless you’re in a haunted house, where your intention is to scare people, then you might want to go for a funny costume. There are many different types of funny which you could try to achieve. There’s sarcasm, dry humor, or out right hilarious, regardless of the type, just be sure that you’re not the only one who thinks it’s funny. For example, one popular costume this year is a fidget spinner. Which if you do it well, could not only be funny, but also very entertaining.
- Show effort: If you don’t care what costume you wear, then it likely won’t impress anyone. In order to get the results you have to put in the work. The best costumes are always made yourself, with a few exceptions. It’s always smart to buy masks. However, if there is any way for you to make you own costume, do it yourself.
