Hey fam. If you’re like me, you spend a questionable amount of time looking up DIY “beauty hacks” on the good ole Bing! search engine. But the trustworthiness of these tips and tricks is not always 100% (it’s the internet, people!).
I’ve decided not to let the dubious pitfalls of Pinterest beauty hacks dictate my beauty regime, and I won’t let myself be subjected to buying expensive products just because the cheap ones seem to fail.
So, without further adieu, I present to you the best cheap beauty alternatives, available at your local drug store.
1. Apple Cider Vinegar
This one sounds a little odd, but hear me out. Bath bombs (soap products you drop into a bath) are pricey, often costing at least seven bucks a bomb. Apple Cider Vinegar, on the other hand, is less than three dollars for a half-liter, and smells great.
Use 1-2 cups in warm bath water, and soak for about thirty minutes. The pH of the vinegar will balance out the acidity of your skin, leaving it soft and moisturized. It can also be diluted and dabbed onto pimples with a cotton ball to diminish redness and inflammation.
2. Johnson’s Baby Oil
I know for me, body lotion is often too thick, yet not enough to actually soften my skin. Johnson’s Baby Oil is the perfect solution for dry and sensitive skin. Rub it into damp skin after a shower or bath, and towel off any excess oil. The softness lasts for days and it’s great on acne-prone skin. It can also be used to gently remove eye-makeup without causing irritation.
3. Coconut Oil
Coconut oil has become a fairly popular beauty product, but did you know it can be used for eyebrows? Rubbing a little bit of the oil on each of your eyebrows will help promote hair growth, as its full of Vitamin E and other minerals that enhance thickening. Doing this daily will give you Cara Delevingne brows in a matter of weeks. Likewise, coconut oil can also be used on eyelashes to grow and darken them as well.
4. Old T-Shirts
Wrapping your wet hair in a towel is usually problematic, as the towel is too rough on your delicate hair follicles. Try using an old, softened t-shirt, which is way gentler and dries it out without twisting the hair too roughly.
5. Green Tea
Whether you drink it or put it on your face, green tea provides a multitude of benefits. Drink daily to increase your metabolism and energy, place seeped bags under your eyes to diminish bags, or cool and soak your hair in it for 10 minutes to increase shine. There’s a use for everything with green tea.
There you have it! The best beauty hacks don’t need to break the bank, and can be found at most any convenience store. Good luck and enjoy your cheap beauty hacks!
