The Varsity girls soccer team battled crosstown rival the Sarasota Christian Blazers last Thursday.
Despite missing key players freshman Lindsay Leskinen and senior Hannah Howell, the Falcons still managed to power through and win the game.
The Falcons received kick-off and were able to quickly take the lead over the Blazers with a goal by senior Lexi Sedillo
After a lot of running up and down the field, senior Christina Jones took a shot from just outside the box that went right into the net.
Feeling confident, the Falcons started to relax a little, and Sarasota Christian was able to get a goal, making the score 2-1. However, the Falcons quickly retaliated with a goal by eighth grader Kelsey Leskinen.
Junior Kayla Hayes said she thought that even though it may have been one of their easier games, it was an important one for the Falcons.
“This game was a great opportunity to switch things up and get familiar with different positions, and gave a lot of people chances to score,” Hayes said.
In the last five minutes of the game, junior Kristi Jones kicked an impressive corner to the center of the goal and junior Becca Banks headed it into the net, making the final score 4-1, Falcons
Christina said she was proud of how the team played.
“We were missing a couple of crucial players, but our team was able to pull through and finish strong” she said.
Head Coach Eric Howell said he thought this was an important game for the Falcons.
“It was an important step forward for our team. We played without two key players that the team relies on for both offense and defense, and we were able to play girls in a variety of different positions. Overall it was a very, successful, productive game,” Howell said.
