Athlete of the Week: Max Manning

Trevor Mulqueen, Columnist

In this week’s installment of Athlete of the Week, we feature wrestler Max Manning.

In a wrestling meet in Dunedin last Saturday, Manning ran through his competition and easily won in his weight class. Manning steamrolled, winning all five of his matches by way of pin. Although he doesn’t aspire to wrestle in college, he put a lot of work in during the off-season with Coach Shultes to improve his overall strength and conditioning.  He is already reaping the rewards.

Manning is one of the highest-ranked wrestlers in the state in the 138-pound division. Last year, he made it all the way to the state wrestling tournament, and this year he and the rest of the team have higher aspirations.

“Placing at the state tournament would be amazing for me and the rest of the guys; it would be a great send off to my wrestling career,” said Manning.
