Varsity basketball tips off tonight for district semis

The boys play away at Sarasota Christian at 7pm

Boys varsity basketball find themselves in a rebuilding phase this season, having lost some key players and adding new talent.  But in recent games, the Falcons have really turned things around.

According to junior player Cam Brewer, the season has had some “ups and downs,” but things are really turning around.

“In some ways, the team has gotten better, and it has a lot to do with team chemistry.”

The boys are 7-18, after facing what’s been a difficult schedule, and they face off tonight against Sarasota Christian, away, for the district semi-final at 7pm

Sarasota Christian is the number one seed in the district, and they defeated the Falcons in mid-January 56-48.

Brewer said that players returning from injury have provided the injection that the team will need tonight.

“The return of [senior] Cade Walters really helped in the last game,” Brewer said.

On Tuesday night, the boys defeated the Classical Academy of Sarasota in a thriller to move on to the semi-finals, and the recent wins have provided a boost for the team, according to senior Nick Yatros.

“We feel optimistic and we’ll step up to the occasion,” Yatros said.

The game tips off tonight, Thursday, at 7pm at Sarasota Christian.  We’ll see you there.
