After a tough start to the season, Saint Stephen’s football aims to get their first win against the Seahawks this Friday at the MAC at 7pm for the football and cheerleading Senior Night.
Senior Night is the yearly celebration of the graduating players, in which a half-time program honors the years of commitment these players and cheerleaders have put into their teams.
Despite starting out with a few losses, Head Coach Chris Valcarcel has a positive outlook for Friday’s game.
“I’m looking forward to us bouncing back,” Valcarcel said. “We’ve been working really hard and we’ve had three full weeks of practice and a game week to get ready for this game.”
Valcarcel also mentioned the importance of the return of senior running back Cameron Brewer.
“Brewer means a tremendous amount for our team,” Valcarcel said. “He is a two-way starter for us, and I think he is going to be a key to showing if our offense can move the ball and I really want to see him try and score some points for us.”
Coach Valcarcel also reflected on the meaning of Senior Night for the players who’ve been with the program for a long time.
“I think it is a way to honor the players that have given a lot to continue the program that I love,” Valcarcel said.
Senior captain and defensive linemen Jeremy Stroh is confident that that team is ready for this particular game, as a result of the return of injured players.
“I think we will stay strong on defense,” Stroh said. “I anticipate we will follow our game plan and come out strong on offense.”
The theme for Friday’s game will be “Country,” so students are encouraged to attend in their midwest best.
On an additional note, in the wake of Hurricane Helene, with many SSES families impacted, a portion of the gate receipts and concessions will go to SSES Family Relief Efforts to help those in need.
