Coach Kelly

Many of us may have come across our new, cheerful, and dependable athletic trainer Coach Kelly Colwell. You may have seen her in the training room helping out our student-athletes, driving around on her gold cart, or running onto the field to save the day when someone gets injured. This summer, Colwell took a step away from campus to share her skills and compassion at the XFL Combine at IMG Academy.

She served as an athletic trainer and she met Dany Garcia, the chairwoman, and owner of the XFL, an American professional football minor league, without knowing who she was until after the encounter. Colwell said, “I made these peppy comments because she was trying to time the 40, and I was cheering her on and everything. Then she left and I was like ‘wow.’”

Colwell had the opportunity to meet the woman behind the organization. She also got to experience viewing and assisting athletes at the next level, which is something she can bring back to the community of SSES.
