Mr Santa Maria
Mr. Santa Maria is starting his fifth year teaching English at Saint Stephens. If you couldn’t figure it out by his classroom decor, his favorite thing to teach the book Moby Dick to, what he calls, the “fresh eyes” of Saint Stephens students. He loves to inspire students with an “amazing experience” by explaining the whale industry and what the jobs entail.
Santa Maria spent the entire summer in New England and Canada. This is Mr. and Mrs. Santa Maria’s third time going to Canada. They have gone every six years since their honeymoon. During his travels in Canada this summer, some of the best experiences he indulged in were “spontaneous”. Mr. Santa Maria and his wife “stumbled upon” the national championship of timber sports, which is a lumberjack sport.
Santa Maria also learned how to row a “boat called a Dory that was used in the fishing industry” he stated. He later “got a chance to race against another person” in the Dory boat. By doing this he realized “how hard it was and how much coordination was needed to be able to row a small boat just like in the book Moby Dick”.
Mr. Santa Maria had a “wonderful summer” and would not change anything about it and is excited to share his experiences.
