Sarah Black

Sarah Black is a sophomore at Saint Stephen’s. She is a member of the girls basketball and golf teams. She loves hanging out with friends and spending time outdoors.

Over the summer, Sarah had the opportunity to travel to California and spend her time at The Island Sea Camp. While there, Black hiked through the backwoods, sailed through the waves and camped beneath the stars. There was just one catch: no tech whatsoever on the trip.

Throughout the three-week period, not a single camper touched their phone while they enjoyed their activities. “Not having my phone was tough,” Black said, “but it helped me realize I could honestly go without it.”.

Even though this was an exciting experience for Sarah, there were a few things she said she wasn’t going to miss. Black noted, “California is in a stage one drought, meaning the rest of the camp and I only had a limit of two-minute showers,” she told us. She was disappointed about not being able to fulfill her hygienic needs.

After the trip ended, Sarah thought back to how she wasn’t looking forward to the camp in the first place. “I was not looking forward to this trip at all’. But in the end, she and the rest of the campers cried about leaving.

Her camp experience was unforgettable and the she learned a powerful life lesson. “I learned to live in the moment and take every opportunity that you possibly can.”
